No serious discussion of Indonesia could be possible without mention of Indonesia's former "elected" former dictator Suharto. Members of his family have been some of the major players in the economy. Suharto was the self-dubbed "Bapak Pembangunan" (Respected Elder of Development). Although Suharto resigned in 1998, he remains very influential.
