We now take our leave of the rainforest. This sunset is in a cloud forest. Cloud forest is another name for montane rainforest which is characterized by heavy rainfall and persistent condensation due to the upward deflection of moisture laden air currents by mountains. Trees here are typically short and gnarled. Costa Rica's most famous cloud forest is at Monteverde in the northwest. |
