A cultural regard for environmental values is difficult to instill. In Cameroun, for example, "bush meat" is cheaper than livestock, and logging roads have made the once lush rainforests a poacher's paradise. Belize is fortunate in that it has a strong sense of environmental awareness. This awareness is due, in part, to the numbers of environmentally conscious North Americans who have settled here, as well as the large numbers of "ecotourist" visitors.
